Flow and Attachment

I open the standup with no expectations of where it will go. We walk the board starting on the right. I read out the name of stories in turn and those who’ve been working on them happily or reluctantly report them done and ready to pull. For stories left in progress we tell tales of trips down rabbit warrens or discoveries of new jungles. Help is offered and accepted or politely refused. Whilst we try and follow the path of collective ownership, understanding the benefit of a fresh eyes and mind, attachment overcomes our good intentions. Reasons for not swapping pairs turn into a confessional.

In dialogue we discover we know less than we thought. We carefully try to listen and respect all opinions and let go of our preconceptions, battling with the instinct to know best and fall deeper. Stories grow with new ideas and split. Stakeholders constantly weigh up cost and value.

As we grow more confident in our ability we let our heart decide and freed from cold reason creative solutions emerge. We feel the tension between flow and attachment. Somewhere in-between lies the ability to deliver the right thing.
